Bronte’s practice explores topics of feminism, relationships and the connection between nature and emotion. She uses texts, such as, Kate Greenaway’s The Language of Flowers (1884) to hand embroider the characteristics of participants on to handmade underwear. The use of handmade and hand embroidered garments in her work is a direct link to the history of female culture. Bronte’s work also looks at gender and, within that, the male and female gaze. She uses both male and female participants in her work, in an attempt to create fluid relationships between her subjects and her pieces.
